It's the start of Golden Week!! I think they should rename Golden Week to "Golden Several Days" because actually it is only a three-day holiday! I am not knocking a three-day holiday. But calling it "Golden Week" when you only get three days off is kind of a tease in my opinion :p
Quibbling aside, this past Wednesday was indisputably Showa Day, a day to remember the former Emperor Showa who reigned during the "turbulent" period that included WWII. Awkward! But a day off is a day off! I used it to go apartment hunting with my prof, because I need to move in less than two weeks!
Apartment hunting was shockingly easy. My prof made an appointment with a real estate agency and they sent us out with some guy who showed us five apartments that were all great contenders, but in the end I went with the first place I saw. I definitely felt like I was on House Hunters International, except that I didn't decide to just ignore my budget for no reason and I didn't pick a garbage house. My move-in date isn't set, but I'll almost certainly be writing my next blog post from my new digs!! I should probably see about getting internet access..
Anyway, to kick off Golden Week, today I went to Maruyama Park with my friends. Maruyama Park is supposed to be a primo place to view cherry blossoms, but I guess it's a good thing that we were there last week because the blossoms were pretty much already toast!! Even still, the park was jam packed with people barbequing and drinking and playing games, and we had a great picnic on a baseball field despite an overabundance of spiders!
