Week 53b: Kyoto trip day two

On day two, I visited Arashiyama and eastern Kyoto.

My first stop was a small shrine.

Next, I climbed a mountain....

And went to the monkey park!! The monkeys here are wild but pretty used to humans. They were sleepy when I arrived because the park had just opened, and there was only me and an old lady.

If you wanted to, you could go inside and feed the monkeys.

I bought some apple for them.

Not a dead monkey.

Next, I went to a small shrine.

My next stop was Tenryuji temple.

A monk taking a picture of another monk using an iPad.

Tenryuji temple is surrounded by bamboo groves.

Next, I went to Giyoji temple.

In eastern Kyoto, I went to Ginkakuji temple. Ginkakuji means "silver temple" (I went to the gold temple on my third day!).

This sign is pointing out that there is a tree on the opposite slope that survived the bomb in Hiroshima.
